2008 Horse Adventure Camp  -  New !


Join the fun of the out of doors and a week of horses, fun, laughter and education as you enjoy this week in the Sawtooth Mountains with Mystic Saddle Ranch. This camp is for ages 12 to 82.!

Day 1:     2PM  -   5:00PM

Introduction 5-10 minute talk-get together
1. Introduce booklet
Go through booklet
2. Parts of horse, parts of saddle, different kinds of bridles
3. Brushing/saddling/bridling
4. Getting on: proper technique, what to check for prior to mounting, posture, etc...
5. Reining, control of your horse, how to set, etc...

Brush and saddle own horse
Riding instruction
Short ride
Back to camp. Get settled in, dinner, talk on history of SNRA and campfire

Day 2:

Breakfast, pack lunch and head to horse staging area.
Horse activities: 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM
Review yesterdays information plus
1. Talk about horses
Care of horses
Feeding and cleaning
Grooming of horses-neat appearance, trim hair, hoof pick
Shoeing/stone bruises/trim protect hoof- demo
2. What horses are used for?
Packing- Demo and participation
Driving- Demo and participation
Pleasure riding
Show horses- speaker
3.Brushing/saddling/bridling: each camper does his/her own horse
4.Getting on: proper technique, what to check for prior to mounting, posture, etc...
5. Reining, control of your horse, how to set, etc...

Back to camp to help fix dinner, guest speaker/workshop on low impact camping techniques, campfire

Day 3:

Breakfast, pack lunch and head to horse staging area.
9:00- 12:30
Review Day 1 and Day 2 plus:

  1. Cost of owning your own horse- kids estimate cost and then are supplied with actual cost
  2. Horse’s teeth do’s and don’t- Horse dentist
  3. Traveling & trailering tips- demo and participation
  4. Horse vision

5. Brushing/saddling/bridling: each camper does his/her own horse
6. Getting on: proper technique, what to check for prior to mounting, & posture.

  1. Reining, control of your horse, how to set, etc.

RIDE
12:30-1:30 lunch
1:30-5:00
Stations- Check campers picks an activity to participate in for the afternoon

  1. Dutch oven-This group will be cooking our dinner for this night
  2. Fishing
  3. Birds, Flowers & Tracts
  4. Hiking

Free time prior to dinner
Help fix dinner, get organized for tomorrow’s program, camp games

Day 4

Sleep in J
10:00 am breakfast and fix lunch for ride
11:30 meet at horse staging area
Review, ride, and lunch on the trail
Back to camp by 4:00 PM
Get ready for Parent’s night/campfire/skits
Dinner
Parent’s program and wagon rides

Day 5

9:00 AM breakfast and fix lunch
Pack and clean up camp
11:00 horse staging area for horse games and fun activities
1:00 Lunch/closing ceremony/plant a tree
2:00 Head home
HORSE CAMP I June 16-20,2008
$689.00/person for 5-day camp

Lots of camp songs w/ guitar and instrument participation
Team building activities
Incentive’s in the way of “Horse Bucks” that they can buy items with at the end of the week or other incentives throughout the week. Some awards will be given at Parents night such as “most improved” " Most positive attitude”…….

YMCA Service Camp July 7-11, 2008
$175.00/participant

Day 1- Meet at 9:00 at trailhead and ride into the mountains at a pre-determined site next to a lake. (Please bring you own lunch this day). Get camp set up, cook dinner, free time, and campfire.
Days 2- 3 Breakfast, pack lunch and head out for a day of trail work. This MAY involve water bars, rock removal or building up a trail due to erosion and or bridge construction. We will be working with the Forest Service to decide on an area in need of work.
Day 4 Breakfast, pack lunch and 1/2 day of trail work. Rest of day free
Day 5 Breakfast, pack lunch break camp and head down the mountain stopping part way to enjoy lunch and a few more minutes of this incredible country.

We will determine the project at a later date. We will plan to pack into the mountains on horseback and base at a high mountain lake for our week of trail work, maintanance and fun!

We will supply campers with a list of what to bring, a list of what NOT to bring, necessary assumption of risk release forms, what they & their parents can expect, and goals and objective for the week.
